What’s new in Business Central (2024 release wave 2)?

In this article, we list selected new features from 2024 release wave 2. This is an update that covers the period from October 2024 to March 2025. The full list of new features is available in the Microsoft documentation. So, what new features can we expect in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central? 

  • With the new update, Business Central will be available in 180 countries and regions worldwide. Previously, it was 170 locations.
  • New languages added to Copilot. Copilot in Business Central currently supports the following languages: English, Danish, German, Italian, French, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Japanese, Swedish, Finnish, Norwegian, Polish, Russian, Thai, Turkish, Czech, Greek, Korean, Chinese.
  • Sustainability tracking.
  • Review and adjust analysis created with Copilot and add hidden fields to the analysis (screenshot below).

  • Suggest item UoMs, variants, substitutions and dimensions (screenshot below).

  • Suggest numbering series with Copilot to create new, modify existing, prepare no. series for next year (screenshot below).

  • Other Copilot-related features:
    • Copilot for Finance for Outlook now work with Business Central data
    • Enhancements to chat with Copilot
    • Chat with Copilot to learn how to use installed add-on apps
    • Create Sales Lines by importing CSV files
  • New module for subscription billing and revenue (screnshot below).

  • Flexible upgrade and update management:
    • Five-months upgrade period for major versions (25, 26, 27…) – vs. 60 days now
    • Optional minor version updates (25.x, 26.x, 27.x…)
    • Only for Microsoft-localized environments
  • What’s new in Developing with AL?
    • Improvements in AL interfaces for extensible solutions
    • Profiles (Roles) extensibility
    • SaveAsJson supported on Query objects
    • Modifying InsertAllowed, ModifyAllowed, DeleteAllowed for Page extensions
    • Package resources for extensions initial or demo data accessible from AL
    • HttpClient AL method for PATCH requests over HTTP
    • Using this keyword for Codeunit self-reference
    • Using ternary operator ( ? : )
    • Developer toolkit to build Copilot-based functionalities


  • Preformance Profiler Schedules

The enhancements add a new rule-based scheduling mode to the existing Performance Profiler—by launching a profile, performing client-side playback steps, stopping the profiler, and then analyzing the results—for capturing profiles in the background. This allows a customer administrator, consultant, support person, or developer to configure a specific scheduled rule—for example, to create a profile for a specific user and session type for a specific duration.

  • Selected performance improvements:
    • Much moreperformant data search, list search, look up & drill down search.
    • Optimized Job Queue flow to preserve job number in a queue (FIFO) and respect job priorioty.
    • Reduced locking when posting Warehouse Entries concurrently.
